Hallmark History: A Look at 149 Years of The Game
When one thinks of a football rivalry, what might immediately come to mind are the dramatic showdowns between top SEC schools like Alabama and Auburn. But, the precedent for those games actually stems back to the oldest football rivalry in the United States. Developed as a sport amongst the Ancient Eight universities scattered along the Eastern seaboard, the storied history of the Harvard-Yale football series dates back over 150 years and is the second-oldest and third most-played football showdown in collegiate history.
Brooms, Beaters, and Belief: The Harvard Horntails Fly to Glory in Quadball Championships
In late April, the Harvard Horntails, Harvard’s club quadball team, won the USQ Cup National Quadball Championship, finally breaking after finishing as the national runners-up the year prior. In an intense rematch against the reigning champions, the Crimson emerged victorious by a narrow margin of 160-140, securing the coveted championship trophy.
Yale Defeats Harvard 23-18 to Win The Game; Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth to Share Ivy Title
The Yale Bulldogs defeated The Harvard Crimson 23-18 in the 139th edition of The Game on Saturday afternoon. Harvard had a chance to win the game with a final drive late in the fourth quarter, but quarterback Jaden Craig’s desperation heave on fourth-and-long fell incomplete, giving Yale a second consecutive victory in one of college football’s oldest rivalry games.
No. 19 Harvard Defeats Penn in Triple Overtime to Clinch Share of 2023 Ivy League Title
No. 19 Harvard football (8-1, 5-1) hosted Penn (6-3, 3-3) at home for a dramatic competition between two contenders for the 2023 Ivy League Championship. The Senior Day competition proved to be a close one through and through, with both the Crimson and the Quakers keeping a close score throughout the game. After three overtimes, Harvard was able to clinch at least a share of the Ivy League title with a score of 25-23.
No. 19 Harvard Beats Columbia 38-24 to Win 900th game in Program History
No. 19 Harvard Football (7-1, 4-1) traveled to New York to take on Ivy League competitor Columbia (2-6, 0-5) and came out victorious. The Crimson defeated the Lions 38-24 to give the Harvard football program a 900th game win in its history.
No. 23 Harvard Football Defeats Dartmouth at Home 17-9, Improves to 6-1
The No. 23 Harvard football team (6-1, 3-1) pulled out another Ivy win against Dartmouth (3-4, 2-2) this past Saturday at Harvard Stadium. With the win, the Crimson advanced to 6-1, its best seven-game record since 2016. Harvard also improved its Ivy League record for the year, going 3-2 for the second-straight season and only the second time since 2016.
No. 23 Harvard Falls to Princeton for First Loss of 2023
The No. 23 Harvard football team (5-1) (2-1) suffered its first loss of the 2023 season against the Princeton Tigers (3-3) (2-1) on Saturday by a score of 21-14, dropping their record to 5-1 and 2-1 in Ivy League play. The Crimson was formerly ranked 18th in the FCS before facing the Tigers.
No. 17/18 Harvard Football Looks to Stay Unbeaten Against Princeton
No. 17/18 Harvard (5-0) (2-0) is primed to face off against Ivy League rival Princeton (2-3) (1-1) this Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. The Crimson enter this game as one of two undefeated teams in the FCS (No. 1 South Dakota State), and are looking to go 6-0 for the first time since 2015. With a win this weekend, head coach Tim Murphy would be in sole possession of the most Ivy league wins as a head coach. Murphy is currently tied for the lead with Yale’s Carm Cozza at 135.
On Four-Game Winning Streak, No. 18/19 Harvard Football Primed for Showdown with Howard
No. 18/19 Harvard — one of two remaining undefeated FCS teams (No. 1 South Dakota State) — will round out its non-conference play for the 2023 season this Saturday against the Howard Bison. Last week, the Crimson took down Ivy League rival Cornell by a final score of 41-23. Harvard enters the game 4-0, and looks to improve to 5-0 for the first time since 2021.
No. 19 Harvard Football to Face the Big Red on Friday
No. 19/21 Harvard — one of the three still-undefeated squads in the FCS — is gearing up to dive back into Ivy League play against Cornell this Friday night. Harvard’s impressive 38-28 win on the road against then-No. 5/6 Holy Cross last weekend was more than just a game for the Crimson. In addition to being Harvard’s first win against the No. 25/RV Crusaders since Oct. 2, 2021, it was also the Crimson’s highest ranked win since defeating No. 11 Yale on Nov. 17, 2007.
