The IRO is split into 3 crucial stages. The Opens round, which is virtual, is the first stage, and it focuses on analytical skills and creative thinking surrounding the scientific papers. Students will be tested primarily through MCQs. Similar to the Opens round, the Semifinals round is also virtual, and consists of the top 10% of participants from the Opens round. This round introduces challenging FRQs and is judged by qualified researchers. The top 10 participants move on to the Finals, which occurs in-person at Harvard Square.
Accommodation expenses will be covered for ALL FINALISTS.
The exam encompasses a broad range of topics, ensuring participants demonstrate a well-rounded understanding of the following areas:
- Natural Sciences: Test knowledge and analytical skills in biology, chemistry, and physics through scenario-based questions.
