Tourists: Just Like Us

By Sarah P Reid
Sure, tourists are annoying. When we see a tour group at 6 a.m. on our way to practice, we can’t help but roll our eyes. When we see a naïve visitor stroking John Harvard’s foot, we can’t help but grimace. And when tightly packed groups of them holding professional cameras and worn maps block our entrance to Annenberg, we can’t help but feel the slightest twinge of annoyance. We all love to hate Harvard’s tourists, but do we also hate to love them? A brief jaunt through Harvard Yard shows that maybe we have a bit more in common with these irritants than we would think. In fact, maybe Harvard’s tourists are just like us.
