One in Five Cambridge Voters Cast Ballots by 3:30 P.M.
About 14,000 Cambridge voters had cast ballots in the state primary election by 3:30 p.m. — 20 percent of the city’s 70,250 registered voters, according to the Cambridge Election Commission.
With just hours until polls close, the city’s Election Day turnout is on track to surpass the last two primary elections. In 2024, 15,619 ballots were cast on Election Day, about 500 more than in 2022.
Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin forecasted higher turnouts across the state for the Democratic primary — a predication that may hold true in Cambridge, as the city experiences an especially competitive election year.
Six of the nine state House and Senate districts that cover Cambridge have challengers this year — a level of competition many of the seats haven’t seen in years.

Before Election Day, the Election Commission had already received nearly 8,000 ballots through in-person early voting and returned mail-in ballots, according to data released by the Commission Saturday morning.
Voters have nearly two hours to make it to a polling site before the 8 p.m. closure.
