Over the past weekend, sold-out crowds filled Agassiz Theater as Harvard Undergraduate Ghungroo returned for its 38th annual production under the lights.

Since 1988, Ghungroo – Harvard’s largest South Asian celebration – has produced yearly student-led performances showcasing dance, music, and arts from across cultures.

Classical dance performers open Ghungroo’s 2026 production, titled “Unbound,” emphasizing the blending of traditional genres between diverse South Asian cultures and diasporas.

Undergraduate dancers and musicians took to the colorful stage to perform acts ranging from traditional Bhangra to contemporary fusions of underground and cinema pop.

Different performances were woven between dance and musical acts. Sophia E. DePaul ‘27 models pieces made by designer Smriti M. Somasundaram '26 in a fashion segment, and Ahmed Fahim Shihab '27 performs an orginal comedy act.

Following a brief intermission, the festivities continued with a celebration of the graduating Class of 2026, featuring senior renditions of select previous dances.

According to the show’s directors, approximately one in ten members of the Class of 2026 participated in the production.

The cast and crew gathered onstage to roaring applause, marking the end of the three-hour production.
