Cambridge Police arrested and charged two individuals under the age of 18 for an armed robbery on Sunday night, the third in a string of armed robberies that took place in Cambridge over the holiday weekend.

Cambridge Police Department spokesperson Robert Goulston wrote in a statement that the minors were arrested Sunday for an “unrelated armed robbery in the area.”

The Sunday arrest followed two armed robberies around Elm Street near the Cambridgeport School. In both incidents, the alleged victim made online plans to sell an item to an individual who then revealed a handgun and ran away with the item, police said.

“We are working to determine if the suspects in Sunday’s incident are connected to the reported incidents on Friday and Saturday,” Goulston wrote.

According to an alert from the Cambridge Police Department, the first armed robbery took place just before 5 p.m. on Friday. The following day, an individual reported a second armed robbery to CPD under similar conditions.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

In the first incident, CPD reported that the armed individual “ran off with two other individuals.”

Nearly 100 robberies were reported in Cambridge in 2022, according to CPD’s annual crime report.

In alerts sent Friday and Saturday, CPD encouraged Cambridge residents with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Unit.

“Residents are urged to always be aware of their surroundings and should call 911 immediately if they ever feel threatened or observe any suspicious activity,” the alerts read.
