BOSTON — A cyclist was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a pickup truck Wednesday morning outside Harvard’s Science and Engineering Complex, according to Boston police.
The crash took place at the intersection of Academic Way and Western Avenue around 11:30 a.m. At around 1 p.m., the bike remained crushed under the front left wheel of the vehicle’s tire, with the intersection blocked off with police tape.
Around nine Boston Police Department vehicles remained in the area as of 1 p.m.
The collision is the third bicycle crash to occur on Harvard’s campus this year. In June, a woman died after she was struck by a truck near Quincy House. At the end of October, a young woman suffered minor injuries after being hit by a motor vehicle between Winthrop and Leverett Houses.
According to the police report, BPD jointly responded to the incident with the Harvard University Police Department. The victim, a young woman, was transported to the hospital with multiple broken bones and an internal injury.
The report stated that she was in a “stable condition.”
HUPD spokesperson Steven G, Catalano wrote in a statement to The Crimson that the department is “aware of the accident,” but declined to comment further.
The driver told BPD he was driving at 25 miles per hour down Western Ave and that he did not see the cyclist in the intersection before the collision. A witness, however, reported that he observed the vehicle traveling approximately 35 miles an hour, according to the police report.
