A mob of teenagers broke out into fights near the intersection of Church Street and Mass. Ave. at around 10:30 p.m. Friday night, according to several witnesses interviewed at the scene.

The teens, mostly Cambridge Rindge and Latin students and recent graduates, had just evacuated a party in Zero Church Street after the fire alarm went off.

The teens were waiting on the sidewalk for the fire department to respond when a fight broke out, witnesses said.

A caravan of police cars showed up in Harvard Square. Several arrests were made after police broke up the fight, according to witnesses.

Twitter and eyewitness accounts of the incident place the estimate of the number of students involved at around 50 and the number of police cruisers at upwards of 10.

A police spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
