In a busy week for Harvard sports, three Crimson athletes were rewarded for their individual efforts by their respective conferences.
Men’s basketball junior forward Evan Harris came up big in a pair of Harvard wins to be named Ivy League Player of the Week for the first time this season. Harris put together a well-rounded effort against Michigan on Saturday, posting nine points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the 62-51 Harvard upset. Harris also tied for the game-high with 18 points in the Crimson’s 72-67 victory over New Hampshire last Wednesday, adding five steals and four boards.
In women’s hockey, Harvard junior forward Sarah Vaillancourt also gained top honors in her division, receiving the ECAC Player of the Week award. Vaillancourt led the Crimson with four goals and four assists in three wins for No. 2 Harvard. She netted a goal and an assist in last Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over No. 8 Dartmouth, and scored six points over the weekend in the Crimson’s road sweep of RPI and Union.
The men’s hockey team saw one of its players honored as well. Freshman forward Michael Biega was named the ECAC Rookie of the Week after scoring his first career hat trick in No. 13 Harvard’s 3-3 tie with Yale last Wednesday. They were the first goals of his career, including one assisted by his brother, sophomore defenseman Alex Biega.
