Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory

MALE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, RUNNER-UP: Matt Schindel

By David H. Stearns, Crimson Staff Writer

While quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and running back Clifton Dawson received most of the attention throughout the Harvard football team’s historic undefeated season, Matt Schindel quietly kicked his way into the record books.

The freshman place kicker quickly put an end to the woes that had plagued previous Crimson squads, not only solidifying Harvard’s kicking game, but also distinguishing himself as one of the top performers in school history. Schindel’s 13 field goals tied the school mark held by Charlie Brickley ’15 since 1912. Schindel was also one of eight Harvard players—and the only freshman—to be named first team All-Ivy.
