IVY ROUNDUP: Cornell Snaps Losing Streak

ITHACA, N.Y.—Lenny Collins scored 17 points and Adam Gore added 15 to snap a three-game losing streak for Cornell in a 57-53 victory over Lehigh on Sunday.

Lehigh (3-5) was ahead 29-16 by the end of the first period and widened its lead to 36-20 by the 17:38 mark of the second half.

Cornell (3-5) chipped away from there, using a 9-0 run in a three-minute span to pull within a single point with 8:43 left.

Jason Mgebroff converted an offensive rebound into a basket to pull Lehigh ahead by two points with five minutes to play.

Gore then hit threes on consecutive possessions to bring the Big Red up four points with four minutes left to play.

Lehigh shot 31 percent from the field for the game, including just 28 percent in the second half. Cornell hit 39 percent of its shots, with 52 percent in the final 20 minutes.

COLGATE 62, PRINCETON 39

HAMILTON, N.Y.—Alvin Reed scored a season-high 16 points and Kyle Chones added 11 to lead Colgate to a 62-39 victory over Princeton on Saturday.

It was the second consecutive win for Colgate (4-3) and second straight loss for Princeton (1-3).

Chones contributed his second double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Reed registered two assists to move into fifth place in Colgate history in that category.

Colgate ended the first half ahead 21-11 and never looked back.

The Raiders shot over 51 percent while holding Princeton to under 33 percent from the field. Noah Savage scored 13 points and Patrick Ekeruo added nine for the Tigers.

TEMPLE 50, PENN 46

PHILADELPHIA—Dustin Salisbery scored 21 points and Mardy Collins had 13 to lead Temple to a 50-46 win over Penn in the second game of a Palestra doubleheader Saturday.

Temple coach John Chaney continued his mastery over the Quakers, improving his career record to 23-3 against the Ivy League school.

The Owls (3-2) could have put this one away easily at the free-throw line late in the second half, but went only 5-for-12 in the final two minutes and 8-for-15 from the line overall to keep Penn in the game.

Ibrahim Jaaber scored 17 points and David Whitehurst scored all 10 of his points in the first half for the Quakers (3-2).

Antywane Robinson scored 10 points and the Owls went 6-for-17 from three-point range.

After Penn opened the game on an 8-0 run and controlled the first half, Temple used a 17-4 spurt capped by a Robinson three-pointer to open the second and grabbed a 37-31 lead.

Jaaber, though, rallied the Quakers with free throws, a pull-up jumper and tying driving layup that evened the score at 39-all. Salisbery put the Owls ahead for good with a three-pointer and Dion Dacons made one of two free throws for a 43-39 lead.

Dacons missed three other free throws down the stretch. The Owls attempted 13 of their 15 free throws in the second half.

Eric Osmundson, Mark Zoller, and Jaaber each hit shots late in the second half that pulled the Quakers within one, but they just failed to get the big basket that would put them ahead, even with the Owls missing free throws.

ARMY 67, COLUMBIA 66

NEW YORK—Colin Harris hit a three-point shot at the buzzer, leading Army to a 67-66 victory over Columbia on Friday night and snapping the Lions’ season-opening five-game winning streak.

Army (3-3) trailed by 10 points, 48-38, with 12:56 remaining before Dan Borcherdt hit six free throws over the last 6:29 and got the ball to Harris for the winner.

Harris finished with 22 points, Jarell Brown added 15, and Borcherdt had 10 for the Black Knights.

Borcherdt hit two free throws with 48 seconds left to tie the game at 64-all.

Columbia’s Ben Nwachukwu countered with two free throws with 24.9 seconds left to give the Lions (5-1) a 66-64 lead.

Army’s only other lead in the game came at 36-35, when Brown hit a three-pointer with 17:27 left in the second half. The Lions then went on a 9-0 run, with K.J. Matsui scoring five points and John Baumann four, to take a 44-36 lead.

Columbia scored the game’s first eight points, but the Cadets rallied within a point before the Lions opened up an 11-point lead. Columbia held a 35-31 advantage at the break.

Baumann led the Lions with 17 points, Nwachukwu scored 11, and Matsui had 10.

Army shot a season-best 22-for-29 from the line, including 10-for-13 in the second half. The Black Knights attempted only nine free throws in their previous game, a loss to No. 3 Connecticut.
