The Harvard women’s golf team placed third yesterday at the Yale Invitational at The Course at Yale in New Haven. The Crimson shared third place with Georgetown and Columbia.

After the first round, which took place on Saturday, Harvard stood in seventh place in a field of 10 teams. Captain Jen Cronan was the team’s low scorer with a 79, but the rest of the team had more difficulty with the course, which is notoriously tough with long fairways and undulating greens.

The Crimson fared better during the second round yesterday and the team played closer to its potential, according to coach Kevin Rhoads.

Harvard continued its trend of turning in a strong day two performance.

Freshman Ali Bode improved her score by six strokes from the first round to the second, firing a four-over 74. Her two day total of 154 earned her eighth place individually.

Freshman Emily Balmert recorded a solid performance, scoring 80 on both days. Sophomores Jessica Hazlett and Debbi Amanti both improved their scores on day two. Hazlett shot a 78 yesterday, improving by five strokes, and Amanti’s total of 81 marked a four-stroke improvement.

Rollins College won the event with a score of 593, beating second-place Yale by 21 strokes. Rollins College senior Charlotte Campbell won the individual medal with a three-over 143.

Next weekend, Harvard will travel to Williamsburg, Va., to compete in the William and Mary Invitational.
