Harvard sophomore Sean Barrett won the annual Harvard-Yale contest with a course-record breaking 25:30.11, but Yale managed to eke out a 26-29 victory at home in New Haven on Saturday.

The Bulldogs took places two through four before sophomore Ryan Hafer crossed the line in 25:49.51. The Crimson had its top five all finish in under 26 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Bulldog pack that finished all within 26 seconds of each other.

Closing out the scoring for Harvard were Andrew Lipkin in sixth, Christopher Green in eighth, and Peter Mullen in ninth.

The Harvard women’s team fell to both No. 16 Princeton and No. 25 Yale this weekend as Cack Ferrell of Princeton claimed a new course record with a time of 16:52.94. The Crimson’s sophomore sensation Lindsey Scherf finished second in 17:06.28. Others scoring for Harvard were sophomore Sarah Bourne, freshman Jessica Bryant, sophomore Eliza Gardiner, and senior Danilia Musante.

The Tigers finished with 27 points, followed by the Bulldogs with 41, and the Crimson came in a distant third, finishing with 70 points.

Next week the Ivy League rivals will meet again at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston.
