The Harvard men’s golf team started the spring portion of its season with a respectable eighth place showing at this weekend’s Yale Invitational. The tournament—which was comprised of teams from 22 schools—was the Crimson’s first action since October 21, 2003.
Harvard started the tournament slowly, finishing Saturday’s action with a +38 318—burying the Crimson in 12th place. But led by captain Andrew Klein, Harvard fought back on Sunday, pulling into eighth and finished the weekend with a +51 611. Klein—who finished with the fourth best individual score of the tournament—shot a four under par 68 on Sunday after shooting a four over par 76 on Saturday to propel the Crimson into the top 10.
Junior Chris Wu, who set the pace for Harvard in the fall with his strong play, struggled in his opening round en route to shooting a nine over par 81. But along with the rest of the Crimson, Wu rebounded on Saturday, posting an impressive one under par 71.
“Our team was disappointed after our poor performance the first day,” Wu said. “But we were able to rally and post a great score the second day to climb up the leaderboard.”
Drexel University won the tournament with a two-day score of 590.
