Whitton Earns Ivy Honors Again

By David R. De remer, Crimson Staff Writer

Harvard sophomore Tiffany Whitton was recently named Ivy Softball Player of the Week for the second time this season for her efforts against B.U. and Dartmouth.

Whitton hit four-for-four and doubled home the game-tying run in the Crimson’s 5-4 win over B.U. on Apr. 24. She hit her seventh home run of the season in Saturday’s sweep of Dartmouth that earned the Crimson a share of the Ivy title.

Harvard players have won four of the last five Ivy Player of the Week awards. Junior outfielder Sarah Koppel and senior pitcher Chelsea Thoke are the other two Crimson players to earn the accolade.

As of Sunday, Whitton was ranked 25th in the country with a .405 batting average. In Tuesday’s doubleheader against Rhode Island, she upped her average to .417 with a 4-for-6 performance.

The Harvard team, as of Sunday, was ranked 16th in the nation with a team batting average of .297.
