Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
On the night of Feb. 13, several businesses along Mass. Ave were hit by a series of computer thefts. The total toll was over $10,000 worth of technology and office equipment.
A real estate agent arrived to the office on Valentine's Day to find the rear door pried open and a computer, printer, telephones and 240 sets of keys to Boston-area rental properties missing.
Several hours later, a Mass. Ave. resident reported that the hinges on his basement door had been unbolted and that a fax machine, three computers, a printer and $300 in cash had been stolen from his office.
Later in the day, a proprietor at 921 Mass. Ave. reported the theft of $8,000 of equipment from that location.
The following day, a Newton resident reported the theft of a Sony laptop from an office at 1033 Mass. Ave. The computer, taken between Feb. 12 and Feb. 14, was valued at $2,385.
Police have not made any arrests in connection with any of these thefts.
The same night, the Mary Prentiss Inn was also victim to a series of crimes. The morning of Feb. 14, the co-owner of the inn, located at 6 Prentiss St., discovered that someone had stolen an IBM computer from an unlocked workshop area.
The same morning, three inn guests woke up to find their cars vandalized and looted.
Police have not identified the culprits, who smashed the windows of three cars. The victims reported a cellular phone, $20 in change, a black leather jacket and a pair of glasses stolen.
At about 7 p.m. on Feb. 12, a person was accosted by five males while walking through the alley next to Libby's Liquors at 575 Mass. Ave.
They threatened to beat him if he did not hand over the shopping bag he was carrying.
No arrests have been made, and no descriptions of the assailants have been released.
On Feb. 10, a Cambridge man was arrested at the Mass. Ave. Harvard Coop building after he was observed stealing $120 in merchandise.
Added to the charges against the man, Joseph Macchiaruo, was possession of a deadly weapon--after police found a solid steel pipe, welded to a chain and connected to a padlock, on his person.
On Feb. 8, Cambridge Police arrested Cambridge resident Kathleen Kelley and three other people at Kelley's 185 Hampshire St. residence after a surveillance operation witnessed "activity consistent with narcotics distribution." Two of those arrested were charged with drug possession, while two were charged with possession and intent to distribute illegal drugs.
On Feb. 8 and 12, the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) responded to two separate reports of vandalism at the University Health Services (UHS) building at 75 Mt. Auburn Street.
In both cases, an unknown person or persons smeared human feces on the wall of a UHS bathroom.
On Feb. 11, Cambridge Police interceded in a domestic dispute at 215 Mt. Auburn Street and arrested Dorothy Blakey. During the dispute, Blakey allegedly began swinging a knife at her husband. When he tried to grab it from her, she reportedly pulled it away, cutting his fingers.
Blakey's husband was taken to Beth Israel Hospital for treatment.
HUPD received reports of three stolen bicycles between Feb. 9 and 11. On Feb. 9, a bicycle was reported missing from Larsen Hall at 14 Appian Way. On Feb. 10, a bicycle was stolen from in front of the Kresge Dining Hall at 49 Harvard Way. A bicycle was reported missing the same day from in front of Adams House on Plympton Street.
