HBS Tops, Says Financial Times

HARVARD BRIEFS

By Rosalind S. Helderman

Harvard Business School (HBS) is on the top of the world, after a number one ranking in the Jan. 25 Financial Times, an international business newspaper. The Times surveyed business schools worldwide.

Assistant Director of Communications for HBS Maura Byrne said yesterday that the school is pleased with its designation as the world leader.

"We're interested in information that helps us evaluate how we're doing, and these kinds of surveys are part of that mix," she said.

Byrne warned against overemphasizing such surveys, which may disregard differences between schools such as research and teaching methods.

In other recent polls, U.S. News and World Report ranked HBS first in the nation. HBS fared a little worse though in BusinessWeek magazine's annual rankings, which rated the school fifth.
