Women's Sailing 9th at Yale Intersectional

The weather did not cooperate with the plans of the Harvard women's sailing team at the Yale Women's Intersectional this weekend. The weak winds cancelled many of the scheduled races, leading to a less-than-spectacular competition. In the limited schedule, the Crimson managed to salvage a ninth-place finish.

On Saturday, the team was able to compete despite the light winds. Junior Alexandra Beale and senior All-American Lauren Toretta managed a few top five finishes in the six A-division races but said they did not perform up to their expectations.

"We were really inconsistent," Toretta said.

Daphne Reeve and freshmen Sarah Jessop and Clemmie Everett represented the Crimson in the B division.

On Sunday, the lack of wind cancelled all but two races. Since both races were in the A division and none were held in the B division, neither counted in the overall standings, preventing the team from improving upon its Saturday performance.

A total of fifteen teams competed at the Yale Women's Intersectional. The opponents included New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association rivals Tufts, MIT, B.U., UNH, Yale and Brown.

The Harvard Co-ed Sailing Team was also in action this weekend at the Navy Fall Intersectional.

The co-ed sailing team features two All-Americans in co-captain Christian Taubman and sophomore Margaret Gill. Gill made headlines this past spring when, as a freshman, she became the first Harvard sailor to win the women's single-handed championships.
