Elster Arraigned

By Jenny E. Heller

Joshua M. Elster '00 was arraigned in Superior Court Friday on three counts of rape, two counts of assault and battery and one count of indecent assault and battery of an undergraduate woman. Elster pleaded not guilty to all counts.

A Cambridge grand jury indicted Elster on Feb. 19, moving his case from District to Superior Court, where he will be tried.

The Superior Court transferred Elster's bail from the District to the Superior level, and his bail requirements remained the same.

Under the Court's order, Elster cannot return to Harvard without the escort of his attorney, Kenneth F. D'Arcy '58, or the police. He must remain 150 yards away from the woman who pressed charges against him, and he cannot leave Massachusetts without permission of the Court.

D'Arcy said Elster is currently searching for a job. He added that Elster took a "voluntary leave from Harvard."
