Grille Hearing Is Postponed

By Nanaho Sawano, CONTRIBUTING WRITER

The Crimson Sports Bar and Grille has escaped charges for serving underage drinkers yet again--at least temporarily.

The Grille was ordered to a disciplinary hearing after an intoxicated 19-year-old Boston College student allegedly fell from his fourth-floor dormitory room and was severely injured early in the morning of Oct. 7, according to the Boston College police. The student had been drinking at the Grille earlier that evening, B.C. police said.

Yesterday evening, after the Grille's disciplinary hearing, the License Commission decided to take the case "under advisement" and shelved it for further investigation.

This came as a response to a claim made by the Grille's legal counsel that the charges against the bar were based solely on hearsay and that the establishment was not able to cross-examine the students involved.

The Grille has repeatedly fallen afoul of the law against underage drinking. In 1994 and 1995, it was disciplined for serving drinks to minors. In 1996, it served a six-day suspension.
