Vote for a Libertarian to Ease Transition From Status Quo

As Americans meander to the polls today, I offer a token declaration on behalf of what is now a small but growing political minority. There are no more sweeping government solutions. More importantly, there are fewer and fewer alleged solutions that are even politically viable--hence, we will be left with a United States President rightly described by The Crimson's editorial dissent ("Lesser of Two Evils," November 4) as "ideologically bankrupt." Government cannot keep pace with the dynamic forces of even a nominally free society.

And contrary to the prevailing antiestablishment rhetoric, the solution does not lie in a more intrusive, socialist government. The welfare state must collapse, and I believe it will in our lifetime. If you wish to smooth the transition from the doomed status quo to a time of true personal and economic freedom, vote for Harry Browne on the Libertarian ticket. --Abe Sutherland '97-'98
