FIELD HOCKEY FINISHES SECOND AT ECAC TOURNAMENT

The Harvard field hockey team took second place in the ECAC Touranment in Maine this weekend.

On Saturday in the first round, Harvard defeated Cornell 2-0 in below-freezing weather. Sophomore Judy Collins scored on a breakaway, and freshman Dominique Kalil tallied an insurance goal with 1:53 left in the game.

It was the second time Harvard has defeated Cornell this year.

Yesterday, Harvard battled Maine in the final, and the Black Bears won in overtime, 2-1. Collins opened up the scoring by putting home a rebound of a penalty corner shot from co-captain Daphne Clark, but Maine tied the game on a penalty corner shot with 17 seconds left to play.

The Black Bears then scored six minutes into the sudden-death overtime to win the game.

"I thought that we played well, but we didn't play as well as we should have," Clark said.

The games were the last of the year for Harvard, who finished the season with a 11-8 (5-1 Ivy) record, its best since 1991.
