A tree was dedicated in memory of Dominic J. Armijo '95 yesterday afternoon in the courtyard of the Kirkland House annex.
Approximately 70 students, faculty and members of Armijo's family attended the very brief dedication ceremony.
Under a slow, steady drizzle, Kirkland House Master Donald H. Pfister read a short eulogy in memory of Armijo, who committed suicide in his Kirkland room in January.
"Today we remember our relationship with Dominic Armijo and we consider how it might not end," said Pfister. "It is our responsibility--my responsibility--to remember Dominic...It is a relationship that has changed me and will continue to affect me."
Pfister noted that the tree, a Chinese paper-barked maple, is rare in this area. "It should blaze in the autumn, and thus remind me of Dominic, the much-loved son and special friend," Pfister said.
Pfister ended his speech with a poem written by Abbott Lawrence Lowell Professor of the Humanities Emeritus William Alfred and dedicated to the seniors of Kirkland House.
A Government concentrator, Armijo was an active member of the Kirkland House Committee and Hispanic groups on campus.
He was a participant in the Harvard-Tufts ROTC unit and said he intended to become a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps, and lat- A number of fellow ROTC members attendedyesterday's dedication ceremony in uniform.
