WASHINGTON--It's granddaughter No. 2 for Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Kennedy announced yesterday that his daughter, Kara Kennedy Allen, gave birth to Grace Kennedy Allen in Washington at 7:15 p.m. Monday.

Mrs. Allen and her husband, Michael Allen, live in Bethesda, Md., a Washington suburb.

"I am thrilled for Kara and Michael and I know that they will be wonderful parents," Sen. Kennedy said in a statement.

Mrs. Allen is media director for Very Special Arts, an international organization that provides cultural opportunities for mentally and physically disabled people.

Her husband, Michael Allen, is an architect.

In August, Edward M. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Kiki, announced the birth of their daughter, Kiley.
