Rudenstine, Vest Have Discussed ROTC

TO THE EDITORS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In regard to the topic of discussions between Harvard and MIT about ROTC and the administrative arrangements between the schools, I would like to offer some clarification of the situation.

As I have previously indicated, there have been no formal talks or negotiating sessions on this issue. However, I have been advised that Dr. Vest and Dr. Rudenstine have discussed this matter. It is my understanding that these conversations are ongoing and will continue.

MIT, like Harvard, is reviewing its plans for ROTC and will report to the Faculty on progress toward resolution of the Department of Defense policy issue in 1995. If substantial progress has not been made by that time, a mechanism for making decisions about Institute actions will be established. Sarah E. Gallop   Assistant for Government Relations Office of the President, MIT
