Let the race for the finish line begin.

The Harvard men's soccer team (3-7-0 overall, 3-1-0 Ivy) moved into sole possession of second place in the Ivy League standings with a 4-1 rout of Yale on Sunday, rebounding from its 2-1 loss to Maine last Tuesday.

With this victory, the Crimson put itself in position to win the Ivy League title outright if it can garner wins over Princeton (October 23), Dartmouth (October 29) and league-leader Brown (November 5).

Harvard, however, cannot look towards those games quite yet, as the Crimson hosts tough cross-town-rival Boston College today at 3 p.m.

Harvard sophomore Kevin Silva broke his eight-game scoreless streak with two goals against the Elis, earning him Ivy League Player of the Week honors. The two tallies also placed him third in the league in goals, with three.

Around the rest of the Ivy League, the Crimson got a break when league-leader Brown (7-2-1, 3-0-1) tied Columbia last week, 1-1. In that contest, Brown senior midfielder Darren Eales scored with 40 seconds remaining in overtime to secure the draw.

Eales continues to pick apart the Ivy league with his scoring punch, leading the league both in overall scoring with 25 points (11 goals, 3 assists) and Ivy scoring with 12 points (5 goals, 2 assists). Eales also moved into seventh place on Brown's all-time scoring list with 69 points (26 goals, 17 assists).

Columbia garnered honors as well for its performance in the game with Brown.

Freshman defender Jeff Traola received the Ivy League Rookie of the Week award for his play, halting a first-half shot that was headed for the net. In addition, junior goalkeeper Steve McAnulty stopped 21 shots to contribute to the tie with the 12th-ranked Bears.

As a side note, an extraordinarily-high nine yellow cards and two red cards were handed out, along with 81 fouls.

Also during the week, Dartmouth picked up a non-league win against Boston College, 1-0, but lost two games down south in the Lanzera/Holiday Classic, 2-0 to eighth-ranked Virginia and 2-0 in overtime to Maryland. Despite these losses, senior Asa Marokus was named to the all-tournament team.

Also in the tournament, Princeton tied Maryland, 2-2, but was held scoreless for the first time in 27 games in a 1-0 loss to Virginia. The Tigers also placed a player on the all-tournament team in sophomore Andrew Lewis.

Pennsylvania split two games on a Florida road trip this week, falling by a 4-1 count in overtime to Florida International while defeating Florida Atlantic, 2-0.

Junior Brendan Sullivan scored the lone goal against International and also tallied an assist in the Atlantic win.

Cornell's only game of the week saw the Big Red trounced by Hartwick, 6-1. The lone bright spot of the game was Adam Schomer, the sophomore scored his first career goal and made the Ivy League honor roll.
