Men Booters Edge Quakers

The Harvard men's soccer team snapped a six-game losing streak with a 1-0 overtime win over Penn Saturday.

Sophomore Will Kohler scored with five minutes remaining in the second overtime to break the scoreless tie and give the Crimson the win.

The victory raised Harvard's record to 2-6 and pushed its Ivy mark to 2-1. The 2-1 record, obtained with the Penn win, an opening-season 2-0 blanking of Cornell and a 4-2 setback against Columbia, placed the Crimson in a four-way tie for second in the Ivy League standings.

Penn fell to 1-2 in the league and 3-3 overall.

Brown leads the Ivy League with a 3-0 record. The Bears took an important early-season Ivy match from Dartmouth to grab the lead.

The Bears dominated the 4-1 game from start to finish, getting two goals and an assist from star mid-fielder Darren Eales.

The win marked the first time Brown had beaten the Big Green since 1981.

Brown, which also had a 3-0 win over Holy Cross last week, raised its overall record to 7-2. Dartmouth fell to 2-1 and into a second-place tie in the Ivy League. The Big Green is 3-1-1 overall.

Columbia is another team in the second-place traffic jam behind Brown. Columbia finished its week with a 4-1 loss at Seton Hall and a 1-0 victory over Cornell.

The Big Red again failed to pick up its first Ivy win, as its league record fell to 0-3.

Cornell hasn't faired much better outside the Ancient Eight, with a 1-7-1 record and a current five-game losing streak.

Princeton stayed in the Ivy League race with a 3-1 victory over Yale. With the win, Princeton completed the four-team logjam at second place in the conference.

The Tigers were led by junior Jacob Dowden, who scored three goals and had one assist for the week. Princeton, who suffered a tough 3-2 loss to North Carolina earlier in the week, raised its Ivy mark to 2-1 and its overall record to 5-3.

Besides the loss to Princeton, Yale also suffered a 2-1 loss to Connecticut last week. Yale fell to 0-3 in the Ivy League and 2-7 overall. The losses also increased the Elis' current losing streak to seven games.

The coveted Ivy League Player of the Week award was shared this week by Brown's Eale and Princeton's Dowden. The two stars sit in the top three on the Ivy scoring chart.

Yale's Craig Yacks was selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Yacks scored both of the Elis' goals last week. Harvard  1 Penn  0
