Harvard Travel Service Not 'Overpriced'

TO THE EDITORS OF THE CRIMSON:

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The commentary, "Down with The Shops: A Manifesto," by Christopher Capozzola in The Harvard Crimson of October 8 will certainly bring forward many approving voices about the recent Holyoke Center development.

The management and staff of Harvard Travel Service, Inc., though in agreement with many points that Mr. Capozzola has made, would like to correct some facts which may be casting the wrong light in the wrong direction.

First, the so-called "overpriced travel agency" has existed in the Holyoke Center Arcade for more than a quarter century, and was never a part of the University, although it shares the name Harvard with it, as do many other establishments in this city.

Secondly, Harvard Travel Service could by no means be labeled "overpriced" since it is subject to competitive business conduct, and we have always gone out of our way to find the lowest fares for our clients.

Finally, if one would notice this travel agency in the Holyoke Center now, it will not be there in the near future. After 27 years in our present location, we were advised by Harvard Real Estate that they need our space for their retail rentals, and they were not willing to accommodate us in another space that would fit our requirements. However, our agency will not be taken out of the Square as we will move a few short blocks west into a more dignified location at 150 Mount Auburn Street. Our very experienced, professional agents will continue to serve our established clientele, as they have for the past 36 years! George R. McKenzie   President Harvard Travel Service, Inc.
