Approximately 2,000 students showed up to collect Slinkies, schmooze and distribute their laserprinted resumes to 66 companies gathered in Memorial Hall yesterday for Career Forum 1993.
According to Office of Career Services (OCS) On-Campus Coordinator for Recruiting Judy Murray, the mediocre economy has not prevented companies from recruiting at Harvard. All 66 tables have always been taken, she said, and this year, ten companies were on the waiting list.
Companies ranging from computer software designers to Bloomingdale's Department Stores vied to sell themselves to students eager to reciprocate.
Displays included an Indy 500 car racing computer simulation, Ivy League graduates' spiels and free gifts from chocolate to Mickey Mouse memorabilia.
Last year, the winner of the Harvard recruiting war was the Walt Disney Company. According to OCS Assistant Director Marc Cosentino, the home of Donald and Goofy has been the most popular company among seniors for the last few years.
The most popular industries, however, are consulting and investment banking, he said. The Wall Street powers-that-be were out in force: Merrill Lynch, Salomon Brothers and Goldman, Sachs and Co., among others.
