Mather Resident Will Press Charges

Mather House resident Gregory C. Rogers '94 plans to press charges against a youth who shattered a bottle on his head, he said yesterday.

Cambridge police arrested the suspect, Scott L. Malyerck of Medford, for assault and battery after Malyerck allegedly attacked Rogers at the corner of JFK St. and Winthrop St. around 2 a.m. on Friday. The Harvard University police log described the bottle as a "dangerous weapon."

Rogers suffered a cut to one of his small temporal arteries and four additional lacerations. He said he received 30 stitches at Mt. Auburn Hospital.

Rogers said he was walking back to his residence with eight other friends when three men attacked them at the corner of JFK and Winthrop.

Malyerck struck Rogers with the bottle frombehind and ran off, Rogers said.

A Cambridge police car on routine patrolnoticed the scuffle, and two officers chasedMalyerck in the direction of Harvard Motor Garageand apprehended him, according to Harvard PoliceChief Paul E. Johnson.
