Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
The Harvard men's volleyball team went to the Roger Williams Invitational Tournament on Saturday expecting at least a little bit of competition. The Crimson didn't find it.
The Crimson picked up easy victories over New Paltz, Vassar, and MIT and left Providence, R.I., with the tourney title. Not only did Harvard not lose a game, but not once did an opponent score more than 10 points.
"We thought we would have more trouble," Captain Vince Marin said. "We knew that we could win, but we didn't think we'd go undefeated throughout the entire tournament."
Harvard made its presence known early, beating New Paltz 15-8, 15-3, 15-8 in the afternoon's first match. The Crimson then beat Vassar in straight games, and dispatched MIT in the semifinals. The Engineers were clearly under-matched, scoring only 15 points in three games. In the finals, Harvard once again met New Paltz, and won, 15-10, 15-9, 15-5.
Sophomore Albert Kim was named MVP of the tourney, thanks largely in part to his 28 kills. Marin, who led Harvard with 34 kills, was also named to the all-tourney team.
"Everyone played well," Marin said. "Pere Dutton and Brian Jones had a great tournament. We're playing well as a team. We've got some potential."
