The Ivy League's top two golf teams were on hand yesterday in a three-way season-opening match between Harvard, Yale and Princeton.
The Crimson, unfortunately, was the third team.
The Tigers established themselves as the team to beat in the Ivies this season, shooting a combined 377 for an 18-stroke victory over Yale, last year's Ivy champs. The Crimson lagged 35 shots off the pace with a score of 412.
Princeton nabbed the top three individual honors as well, led by Jason Mrez, who shot a one-over-par 72 at the Springdale Country Club in Princeton, N.J.
The Crimson was led by Captain Terry Murray, the only senior on the inexperienced, sophomore-dominated squad. Murray shot a four-over-par 76 in the icy rain to tie the Elis' Chip Arndt for fourth place.
"This beating was no surprise to us," Murray said. "We have a lot of work to do to be competitive at the Ivy League championships."
The Ivy League championships will be held next week at the Bethpage Country Club in Long Island.
