M. Booters Challenge Brown

Encore no more.

The Harvard men's soccer team will play its final game of the season against Brown tonight at 7 p.m. in Providence. The Crimson (6-8 over-all, 3-3 Ivy) looks to finish out the season with its third consecutive win.

Harvard beat Princeton, 4-2, in overtime Sunday, knocking the Tigers out of first place in the race for the Ivy crown. Freshman Peter Cochran, whose goal just one minute into overtime lifted the Crimson to the win over Princeton, earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors for his performance in Sunday's game.

The Bruins (3-10-1, 1-5) have benn struggling lately...really struggling, as in 10-1 losers to Dartmouth Tuesday.

But Harvard Coach Mike Getman warned against overconfidence. "I think that when a team is playing its last home game, they won't be thinking about past games."

The Harvard seniors who will also be playing their final games in Crimson soccer uniform include Derek Mills, Nick D'Onofrio, David Kramer, Roger Chapman, Richard Knight and Andrew Goldfarb. Those six have participated in a program which has visited the NCAA Final Four twice and captured the 1987 Ivy League championships while compiling a 38-15-12 overall record.

"I know our seniors will be giving their absolute maximum," Getman said.

Mills leads the team in scoring this year with 12 points, on 4 goals and 4 assists. D'Onofrio (4-1-9) and sophomore Jeremy Amen (4-0-8) trail right behind.

Getman announced that sophomore Scott Salisbury will start in the goal aginst Brown. Salisbury was the starter at the beginning of the season. Getman then gave the nod to Salisbury's classmate Jamie Reilly for five straight games. The tandem platooned over the last five games of the season.

In last year's matchup, the Bruins fought Harvard to a 2-2 tie. Tonight, the Crimson will be looking to even the overall series between the two teams.

"Hopefully, we'll play the way we played against Princeton," Getman said.

THE NOTEBOOK: In other Ivy League action, Yale can wrap up the season title with a victory over Cornell. A win would grant the Elis an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament--its first-ever appearance in the collegiate soccer championships.
