The Harvard Krokodiloes and AIDS Education and Outreach (AEO) will combine forces this February to sponsor a Valentine's Day benefit ball and concert.
AEO will host a formal dance in Memorial Hall and the Krokodiloes will sing with the Princeton Tiger Lilies in Sanders Theater on consecutive days the weekend before the holiday. Proceeds will be donated to an AIDS-related care or research center, said AEO member Helen A. Fairman '91.
"I think it works really well in a really deep sense," said Fairman, on the Valentine date. "The AIDS crisis brought out the need for love and acceptance...in loving and caring for people and really tested our culture in that way. A holiday that celebrates love is a good time to be thinking about AIDS."
The Krokodiloes perform several benefit concerts annually, but the February event marks the first time they will donate all proceeds from a Sanders concert, said president Paul M. Lincoln '90.
Fairman said her hopes were high for many participants.
"Valentine's Day is a time when we really need a party," she said. "It's always so stressful. Either you make the huge statement or you have to break up. Or you feel like Charlie Brown without a date. We want this to be something where everyone can come and dance and do their own thing."
