Penn Goes to 5-0; Yale Wins

PHILADELPHIA--Brian Keys scored two touchdowns and Rich Friedenberg kicked a school-record four field goals to lead unbeaten Penn to a 35-22 victory over Colgate.

Penn improved to 5-0 (3-0 Ivy), while Colgate dropped to 1-5.

Friedenberg kicked field goals of 42, 24, 32 and 23 yards to beat the record of three field goals set by Tim Mazzetti in 1976 against Lehigh.

Keys, a fullback, scored on a one-yard plunge in the first quarter and a 17-yard run in the third quarter.

Steve Hooper, a running back, scored Penn's last touchdown.

Yale 24 Columbia 10

NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Yale's Buddy Zachary rushed for 138 yards and had two second-half touchdowns to propel the Elis over Columbia, 24-10.

Yale (1-3-1, 1-0-1) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a six-yard run by sophomore Kevin Callahan.

Columbia (1-4, 1-3), which ended its 44-game losing streak last weekend against Princeton, scored its only touchdown when Terry Brown returned a kickoff 84 yards to start the second half.

Cornell 35 Brown 0

ITHACA, N.Y.--Aaron Sumida threw three touchdowns passes, two of them set up by the running of Scott Malaga, as Cornell beat Brown, 35-0, handing the Bruins their second straight shutout in Ivy football.

Sumida threw a 24-yard scoring pass to senior wide receiver Sam Brickley and a 27-yarder to Frank Monago, both in the second quarter. He also connected with Steve Lutz, a tailback, on an eight-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, when the Big Red put the game out of reach with two touchdowns.

The 35 points were the most scored this season by Cornell (3-2, 2-1). Brown (0-4-1, 0-3-1) remained winless.

Malaga, who went over the 100-yard mark for the third time this season, had 91 yards in the first half and finished with 121 yards. Cornell's second and third touchdowns were set up by the running of the senior fullback, who carried the ball 23 times before going to the bench midway through the third quarter.

Princeton 41 Bucknell 35

LEWISBURG, Pa.--Princeton running back Judd Garrett ran for 233 yards, caught 11 passes for 102 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a 41-35 triumph over Bucknell.

Princeton (2-1, 3-2) moved into a third-place tie in the Ivies with Cornell, while Bucknell saw its record fall to 0-6.

Garrett scored on a 54-yard run in the second quarter and on a nine-yard pass from his brother Jason in the third period.

Princeton gained 605 yards of total offense on the afternoon.
