Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
To the Editors of The Crimson:
I am writing to clarify comments attributed to me in a story on March 2 regarding The Perspective's plan to distribute a condom with this month's issue.
First, as I clearly stated to your reporter, the comments were my own and should in no way be taken as the view pont of the Catholic Student Association. Recognizing the variety of opinions which exist among Harvard Catholics on most issues, it is unreasonable to expect that one person could characterize those perspectives, and I do not attempt or claim to.
In addition, my comments regarding the Catholic Church's position on aritificial contraception were simply statements of fact. They should not be interpreted as anything more.
Finally, your reporter created controversy where none existed. My comments were confined to the Catholic Church's position on the use of condoms as a method of artificial contraception. I recall making no remarks on the issue of "safe sex." Timothy A. Welsh '88
