From Our Readers

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

To the Editor of the Crimson:

The Harvard-Radcliffe Students for Corporate Social Responsibility (H-RSCSR) welcomed the article of Feb. 3 in which you profiled our group's activities and announced the distribution of our first booklet. For the most part, the column was accorate and informative. However, writer James Schwartz states that our Corporate Reporter addresses "the perceived lack of morality of some companies' business practices." This statement is both inaccorate and detrimental to our group's cause. In the introduction to our booklet, which Mr. Schwartz was given, we clearly express that we include in our reports only objective, factual information. Nowhere in our booklet are any perceptions, interpretations, opinions or value judgements of any member of the group.

This may seem a minor misrepresentation of the goals of H-RSCSR, but in fact it is crucial. Students and faculty have been wary of our project because they assume we are hostile toward all corporations and toward the recruiting process in general. If our purpose were as The Crimson states it is, then those who are initially wary of our intentions would have every right to dismiss our report as an attempt to impose our own values on others. This certainly is not the case. Our report seeks only to raise questions on the topic of corporate social responsibility which students may want to consider as they begin the recruiting process.
