A dedication ceremony will mark the official opening of the Malkin Athletic Center, formerly the Indoor Athletic Building (IAB), this afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

Director of Athletics John P. Reardon Jr. '60, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences A. Michael Spence, and President Derek C. Bok are expected to attend today's ceremony, which will be followed by a full lineup of afternoon sports activity.

A synchronized swim team exhibition--featuring National Collegiate Champion Missy Morlock of Ohio State University--will highlight the festivities.

The $4 million renovation has transformed the aging IAB--which first opened its doors to students in 1930--into a modern sports complex with equal facilities for men and women.

Among the many architectural and functional changes include a new, glassed-in mezzanine gallery overlooking the swimming pool with a hardwood floor designed to accomodate dance, aerobics, and other recreational activities.

The Malkin Athletic Center offers new homes to both the wrestling and fencing teams, fully equipped with expanded shower, locker, and sauna areas. The renamed facility also has provided for increased office and storage space throughout the building. New mahogany windows, slate roof, and new wiring throughout the building round out the major renovations.

Peter L. Malkin is a 1955 graduate of Harvard College and has since served on 15 different Harvard committees.
