Bok Beats Bennett

Secretary of Education William J. Bennett may make headlines more often, but President Bok is the most influential man in American education, according to a poll this week in U.S. News and World Report.

Bok and Bennett have disagreed over President Reagan's proposed cuts in federal student aid, and over the role of the government in enforcing equal access to educational institutions.

The poll also ranked Bok, who often speaks on public issues, as the 20th most influential man outside Washington. That list is topped by CBS News anchorman Dan Rather.
