Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
A Newton man who works with the mentally ill has visited Harvard and several other Boston-area schools in the last two weeks on a one-man mission to encourage people to hold "peace vigils" during next week's summit meeting in Geneva.
Saying that the summit "is an important day in the life of the planet," Richard Baydin has taken a leave since October 30 from his teaching job at the Fernald State School in Waltham for his peace campaign.
At the campuses, Baydin has tried to vish the presidents, deans, student government leaders and newspapers editors, who he said are "the people who can use their position to get the word out." Baydin did not, however, get to visit President Derek C. Bok.
Although no vigils have been organized, Baydin said he remains hopeful. "I hope people will hold vigil in their community or in their heart with family and friends."
