In an effort to help out a Harvard motorcycle policeman injured in an accident last month, University police are planning a benefit dance for Oct. 26.

Officer Joseph Hale was answering a call at about 7:30 a.m. on September 9 when a car rammed into him on the corner of Chauncy and Garden Streets.

Hale suffered multiple injuries and had to stay in Mt. Auburn Hospital for more than two weeks. Deputy Chief Jack W. Morse said the two-year veteran will soon undergo further surgery.

The benefit dance for Hale and his wife and three small children will be held at 8 p.m. on October 26 at the Law School's Pound Hall. The Harvard Jazz Band is scheduled to play, and there will also be a buffet dinner. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at the Harvard Police Department.
