A group of about 30 Cabot House residents have organized a committee to improve living conditions in the House before renovations begin next summer.
Work at Cabot and North Houses is planned as the last phase in a four-year renovation of upperclass dorms that began in 1982. The project will include improving the internal structure of North House and creating new suites in both Houses. Because of the relative magnitude of the work and the need to raise more funds. Quad renovations were scheduled as the last stage of the program. Martha C. Gefter, associate dean of the College, said yesterday.
Gefter added that the administration has raised $12.8 million of the $27 million dollars needed, the bulk of it from a loan by a state educational authority, and an additional $1 million from an alumni gift.
The purpose of the committee, composed of interested Cabot residents, is "to encourage the administration to do everything they can as soon as possible," said Stephen L. Buffo '86, one of the three Cabot House committee officers. The group hopes to buy new furniture for the House and paint trim of corridors in Briggs Hall.
Committee members added that the group wants to be a liason with the College. "We want to keep the interaction going." said Melissa A. Burke '86.
The College has retained the architectural firm of Anderson Notter Finegold Inc. to design the renovations.
