Harvard Doctors Complete Fourth Heart Transplant

Doctors at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) late last night performed their fourth human heart transplant, nearly six months to the day after their first such procedure.

As anonymous donor provided the new organ for a 20-year-old man from Vermont suffering from a congenital heart disorder.

BWH had gained permission for the first two operations, both in February, from the state Department of Public Health on a case-by-case basis. In May it won the sole right to perform transplants until September, when the Department will review other applicants.
