Dominating play the entire game Saturday, Harvard's men's rugby team rolled over the University of Vermont, 21-3.

Called "very enthusiastic" by Coach Martya Kingston, the undefeated ruggers (now 3-0) took charge early. Eight minutes into the action, All-American forward Robert J. Zizka, returning from an injury, scored a try for four points.

Later in the half, kicker Mark Bamford booted two consecutive three-point penalty kicks from over 35 yards out, bringing the halftime score to 10-0.

Maintaining its control the second half, Harvard scored another try. This time it was D. Augustus Grant, who earlier in the game had replaced the injured David Grimm.

After yet another successful penalty kick by Bamford, the ruggers rounded out their scoring with a spectacular double-reverse.

Robert Hagebak, trapped 10 yards from the goal line, faked inside and out to the outside; suddenly he passed to Charles Montgomery, who cut back inside, and with two opponents wrapped around his with two opponents wrapped around his ankles dove into the end zone.

"There was no point when any of us felt we were in trouble," said Bamford, adding that the game was "a real confidence builder" coming after two easy victories over weak teams: Maine and Holy Crust.

"We rucked and mauled very well," Bamford added. In other words, the forwards controlled the front lines, making the job easier for the back-fielders.

Kingston added, "We're looking to go undefeated this fall." This Saturday, though, the Crimson faces a strong Brown squad, and the week after, the Cantabs will meet their toughest rival, Dartmouth.

"The next two weeks of practice will be very important," Kingston said. "Spirits are very high right now."

If the ruggers best Brown and Dartmouth, that will almost ensure a trip to the New England championship game November 3.

The League champion goes on to the nationals.
