By The DAILY Texan

A referendum to establish special seats for minorities in the Student Senate at the University of Texas passed with 64.4 percent of the votes in a campus-wide referendum last month.

Each Black, Mexican-American and foreign student will be able to cast one of his or her four at large votes for a candidate running for Black. Hispanic or foreign senator at large, respectively. One additional seat will be granted for each 2000 Black, Hispanic or foreign students.

Any student, regardless of ethnic back-ground, can run for one of the minority or foreign seats.
