A prominent Harvard alumnus last week endowed a humanities professorship in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Sidney Rabb '20, chairman of the board of the Stop & Shop Companies, Inc., said yesterday the purpose of the professorship is to allow Harvard's teaching capacity to keep up with the growing emphasis on research. "I left it to Dean [of the Faculty Henry] Rosovsky to determine what it's for as long as it's in the human sciences," he added.
Robb said he is setting up the professorship in memory of his freshman year lectures who "tremendously impressed" him. He added. "They represented to me a level of instruction which is one of the outstanding attributes of a Harvard education," he said.
