Women Squash Williams, Capturing All 11 Matches

The Harvard women's squash team slaughtered the Ephwomen of Williams, 11-0, in 45 minutes of play on Saturday.

There was no debate over which Harvard individuals would win; the only question was who would yield the fewest points on the way to victory.

Harvard's ninth seed, Juliet Lamont, took first honors, giving up only 13 points in three games. In all, Harvard won 33 of the 40 games and outscored Williams by 300 individual points.

The only battle came in the No. 1 match, and that was short-lived. Williams' Barbara Reifter took the first two games from Harvard co-captain Jackie Corrigan, who played the first position because of Mary Hulbert's absence.

Corrigan came back to win the last three games, 15-9, 15-4, and 15-5. "It was a long ride to Williams and it must have taken Jackie a little while to get adjusted." Coach Pris Pool said of Corrigan's slow start.

Injuries and illness forced the rest of the Harvard squad to play in spots two or three positions higher than normal. Diana Stanley, who played No. 2 for the team last year, has been out with knee and shoulder injuries and Laura Kaye, who would normally play either second or third, was out with mononucleosis.

"It's nice to know that we can count on our players to compete at positions higher than they usually play," Pool said.

THE NOTEBOOK: Harvard meets Princeton February 5, in what Coach Pool calls "the toughest match we should have all year." Harvard beat Princeton last year in the coveted Howe Cup, only to lose to them the following week.
