CHARLESTON, III.--Rather than hold the traditional spring formal, students in the Triad dorm at East Illinois University opted for a mock wedding ceremony as something original and inexpensive that everyone could enjoy.
To keep up suspense and excitement and to encourage more people to attend, the names of the bride and groom were not announced before the ceremony. Only after the stag party and bridal shower did the organizers of the $240 gals inform the bride and groom privately of their respective roles. The Stanford Daily reported recently.
One hundred and twenty-five students attended the wedding and reception held at the Triad dining hall. Wedding guests threw bird seed at the pair as the groom toted the bride off in a wheel barrow. Travel expenses for the honey moon were limited to a dinner for two at a nearby restaurant.
