NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Yale University students will begin to evaluate their teachers this semester on a new form which may figure in faculty tenure decisions or in deciding who teaches what courses.
Teachers may voluntarily distribute the forms which were approved by the Yale College faculty earlier this month.
Until now, the only form of faculty evaluation by students has been "teacher ratings" published annually in book form by the student newspaper and private surveys which some faculty use and retain.
Ability
A university spokesman said the forms would play an "informal" role in appraising a candidate's teaching ability while tenure is being considered.
Teacher evaluation forms are common at many of the nation's universities and colleges, including Harvard.
