To the Editors of the Crimson:

Your recent articles on the controversy between Phillips Brooks House and President Bok over the use of funds to stimulate social conscience is deeply troubling to this concerned aluymnus and former PBH Cabinet member.

PBH has the tradition and loyalty of its own alumni who have served the Cambridge Boston community and maintained devotion and commiotment to social and community causes. It is a tragic irony that a "gift" to Harvard for unspecified purposes should fracture the Harvard community.

If President Bok (not being a harvard College alumns) ruffled the teachers of the PBH administration, it is unfortunate that the Crime mis-reported or exaggerated or exacerbated the situation.

PBH can and should be working through the house system I for one fail to see the need for duplication of administrators, voluntary or paid.

Rather than fuel conflict the Crimson itself could set a standard of more publicity for PBH and its many good works. If this is an example of investigate reporting the CrimeEds should do more homework and do thier share to advance important social causes. Ralph N. Wharton, M.D. '53   New York, New York
